Q: I am living in Canada and considering declaring myself bankrupt from overseas. I have debts in England and I can no longer afford to maintain the payments. I recently got married in Canada and my Wife owns a house here. Would this be affected by my bankruptcy? A: If the property is in your Wife's name and owned by her then in most cases it would not be affected as it is not your asset. If however you are paying the mortgage on this property, it could be seen that you are helping to build the equity. In this case you would need to discuss this situation further with an advisor from our company.
